Rubella Vaccination Program

Niramay’s Initiative :
Niramay is providing free Rubella vaccination Program for the adolescent girls from Pune city under our ‘Rubella Free Pune city’ Project. Under this project Niramay had planned to administer Rubella vaccine to all the adolescent girls from Pune city. This is a Joint Project of Niramay and Rotary Club of Pune University. Rotary Club of Pune University is providing free vaccine for the program and Niramay is administrating the rubella vaccine free of cost to the beneficiaries. Niramay had planned to reach each and every girl from slums, societies with a proper networking with ICDs Anganwadi’s, PMC Schools and Private schools run by various agencies.
Need and Brief information about Rubella:
Rubella, commonly known as German measles, is a disease caused by the rubella virus This disease is often mild and attacks often pass unnoticed. The disease can last one to three days. Children recover more quickly than adults. Infection of the mother by Rubella virus during pregnancy can be serious; if the mother is infected within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy, the child may be born with congenital rubella syndrome (CRS), which entails a range of serious incurable illnesses. Spontaneous abortion occurs in up to 20% of cases.
Prevention :
Rubella infections are prevented by active immunization programs using live, disabled virus vaccines .Unfortunately there is no treatment for Rubella. Vaccination is the only way to prevent all these complications.
Recommended age for vaccination :
A separate vaccine against Rubella is also available (R-Vac).
R-Vac should be given to:
• All girls at puberty (12 years and above)
• All women of child bearing age and if missed Post delivery.
Vaccine against Rubella offers long-term protection. Clinical reports state that sufficient antibodies are present in the blood even after 21 years of vaccination.
Till MAY 2018 we have administered Rubella Vaccine to 30674 adolescent girls.
